In this unique workshop, we’ll be using the art and soundscapes in the gallery to create visual and experimental poetry and writing, breaking free from traditional linear lines to craft language as art. This includes asemic writing (creating abstract and wordless script) and the genre of concrete poetry and calligrams where one shapes readable text into striking visual forms. You’ll be transforming your writing into expressive, shape-driven compositions that mirror the exhibits in the gallery created by composer Don Harper and visual artists Marion Wood and Andy Lepe. Throughout the evening, Andy will be doing a live painting experiment being guided by the workshop experience. Then, we share our writing inventions during the open-mic section, experimental music composer Brian Wallace will turn your words into ethereal sounds and shapes. Don’t miss this sensory buffet!
Don Harper is an American composer, conductor and songwriter for film, television, Disney spectaculars, Presidential Inaugurals, and many other events. Here’s one of his experimental compositions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtWqraFHLHI
